Yes I have used compost for pre heating water for a number of years. 55 degree F. water into the pile, 110 degree F. water out, if the sun is shining or not. The water then it goes into the solar panel. The pile cooks for 2 to 3 weeks with a core temp of 140 -160 degree F. After the temp falls the pile must be rebuilt.
