[Cob] Coblist Digest, Vol 10, Issue 54robert gepford robertandyaya at gmail.comSun Jun 24 20:35:53 CDT 2012
I would suggest you contact Michael Wood on FB and raise some of these questions...He lives in Northern Cali and is an expert superadobe builder and also a ceramicist so he knows huge amounts about both earth and stabilized earth building. I hired him to go over my ideas for building my superadobe house. His insights pulled me through. There are a lot of misconceptions by many of the "natural" builders concerning stabilized earth and the use of things like rebar and barb wire.. I understand their wanting to build their way and have learned much from them but some have made it a religion and dis things done for safety and reliability. eg. I was told i could not build a superadobe dome in Thailand (whew I now live) I now have a nice 11 ft dome on my place...will see how it holds up but so far it is great. and now we have our 2 br. 4dome cluster that we for other reasons have roofed moving on to completion...we have used very successfully a dirt stabilized with a bit of cement superadobe and are using an infill using over 50% rice hulls with dirt and less than10% cement and some lime.(not hydrated, but ag type, all we ca get here) this has worked beautifully.
