[Cob] adding lime to floorKindra Welch kindra at claysandstraw.comWed Sep 7 18:36:45 CDT 2011
Careful on the "adding lime to an earthen floor mix". Mixing clay and lime may result in unknown chemical reactions which create very very weak mixes. I tried once just throwing in a bit of lime in every batch... which resulted in the only floor failure I have ever experienced. Had to dig it out and redo. Full lime would be safer. Make test samples, make test samples :) Kindra Date: Mon, 5 Sep 2011 16:33:17 -0500 From: Brian Ziggy <evacindustry at gmail.com> Hiya all: I am seeking information regarding earthen floors with a lime content. I'd like to add some alkaline material to my floor to possibly help stave off potential mold and mildew growth. The plan is to do an earthen/lime finish floor, and then tile over it. The lime may be unnecessary, but for some ease of mind it seems like a worthwhile experiment. Have you ever added lime to an earthen floor mix? What kind of ratio did you use? Thanks in advance. - ziggy
