[Cob] psi testingDamon Howell dhowell at pickensprogress.comThu Sep 23 11:05:46 CDT 2010
Or you could do like most cobbers have done for the past 20 years and just build your home and not get into all that bureaucracy. Because as surely everyone on this list knows and you point out, it's more about lining lobbyist's pockets that building good, cheap, and safe homes. I mean, c'mon, as Ed was saying the requirement for strength of your walls is 1200% overkill. They know natural materials cannot deliver like concrete and steel, that's why the requirement is in place. It's taken me forever and I'm only half way finished, but I'm building a storage building which I plan to use as a demo, because as I've noticed with visitors, people are weary of cob's legitimacy until they can see and touch it themselves. Then they see the system that's trying to suppress cob is acting on ill grudges against being labeled too traditional and poor. Damon in GA I have followed these threads about psi testing and I am thankful that the information is out there, regardless of what regulating bodies demand certain data and what not.If cob is to be recognized as a legitimate building method it will take people like you, Janet, to do the legwork to get it done. Kudos. While building code may be slanted in many ways towards lobbyist groups (vinyl, lumber, etc), it is absolutely necessary to go through the bureaucratic process to get cob recognized and legitimized.Once architects and engineers can sign off on this invaluable building method based upon some proven data, the better off we all will be.Why hinder the process? Why not support cob building? No matter what avenue?
