Greetings all, There are many good questions and discussions on this list surrounding cob and associated techniques. I would like to invite you to participate in hands-on workshops as a way to quickly gain a solid understanding of specific techniques. These versatile plasters can be applied to drywall, brick, cob, straw-bale, and other surfaces. In this hands-on workshop learn all the skills you need to enhance your home with natural plasters. We’ll cover various mixes for base coats, finish coats, and sculpture, tools, materials, coloration, and techniques. Join us in making new friends, laughing, and creating gorgeous walls. Earthen Floors -- July 12-13 Appleton, Washington Want to learn to create truly sustainable floors that will impress all who walk on them? This hands-on workshop is for you. Rich in color and feel, earthen floors are easy to clean, durable, and inexpensive. Using different techniques and materials, we will create and apply floor mixes for sub-floor and finish layers. Instruction will also cover material selection, tools, variations, and oiling options. Earthen Oven -- August 23-24 Appleton, Washington Would you like to connect to your cooking in a more profound way? Embrace our instinctive relationships with, earth, water, air, fire, and food to create artisan breads, pizza, stews, roasts and joy in an earthen oven. Get the benefits and exceptional baking of commercial ovens at a fraction of the cost. We will build a permanent earthen oven and a small temporary oven to bake in right away. Design principals and variations will be presented. Learn how to ensure clean combustion and efficient use of wood. Get baking tips on how to get the most out of an earthen oven. FEES: $190 per person for two days of hands-on learning, vegetarian meals and overnight camping in a beautiful setting above the Columbia River Gorge.
