[Cob] Western Washington "cobwood" work party - August 25yewberry at wavecable.com yewberry at wavecable.comWed Aug 22 15:35:15 CDT 2007
Where: Stanwood, Washington (halfway between Seattle and Bellingham) When: **Saturday, August 25**, from 10:00 a.m. until folks get sick of looking at me. :) What you should bring: Gloves, rubber boots or water shoes (if you have sensitive feet), a hat if it's hot and sunny, and copious enthusiasm. Extra shovels, levels, assorted tools are helpful but not required. **We're also putting together a time capsule to bury in the wall. Bring a small (2" x 2") item, if you'd like to include something.** What I'll provide: Lots of cold drinking water, a tasty vegetarian lunch (not vegan, sorry), tarps, a little bit of cob know-how, and a sense of humor. I don't plan to cater to dietary needs, so if in doubt, bring your own lunch. What you'll get out of it: The (very) basics of cob, the aforementioned free lunch, good company, the gratitude of a fellow natural builder who *will reciprocate in kind* with your own western Washington cob project(s). You'll also have the opportunity to peruse my collection of natural building books (of which I have many). What we'll be building: A 113 square foot round shed with a mixture of cordwood and cob. We'll install lots of "bottle ends" and lots of interesting windows. I do ask that you RSVP, especially if you're planning to have lunch. I want to make sure we have enough food, tarps, water, and space for everyone. Feel free to bring the kids, but please remember this is a construction area with lots of nice, sharp tools lying around. We'll also be installing windows, which can be kind of a tipsy process in the beginning. So running around the house itself will be discouraged, nicely. There will be a big pile of sand and clay to play with, though, so there's still much fun to be had! :) This will happen rain (within reason) or shine. Hope to see you here! Brina
