[Cob] Cob/cordwood hybrid--plaster question...phil phawn1 at excite.comMon Jan 9 05:54:56 CST 2006
What we have done in the past is add 5% dry lime to the cob for near ground applications. It is a bit hard on the feet but then again your feet should be hard. It makes the cob set up fast and helps cut down on dusting as well. This mixture was used in a cob/cordwood project. Concrete is what nearly everybody used 20 years ago, and the house is still fine. They are still living in it very happily.Building it today, I would want to examine other alternatives to pure concrete. But I know a couple of people who believe that 5% portland cement is needed for cob. Especially down towards ground level.(isn't breath was the noun form?)...................Rpdger wrote (snipped):I wouldn't want to use a cement based product... it won't breath. Worse it will wick water to the wood. I think 'cobwood' with an earthen or lime plaster would do marvelously._______________________________________________Coblist mailing listCoblist at deatech.comhttp://www.deatech.com/mailman/listinfo/coblist _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
