[Cob] Cob cottage and land for saleTim Nam tkn317071 at yahoo.comMon Jan 2 21:44:50 CST 2006
Have you considered hosting a workshop, or two, to finish the bale building? Just an idea I had. Good luck. "dorethy at juno.com" <dorethy at juno.com> wrote: READY-MADE SUSTAINABLE BUILDING OPPORTUNITY! 30 acres (20 timber, 10 in native prairie tallgrass, currently in CRP) in Kansas, with an already finished solar powered cob cottage, very artistically sculpted inside and out, plus roofed beginnings of post-&-beam strawbale structure with basement, begun this past summer. Land has two ponds and a creek. Septic system for blackwater. Branched drain graywater system waters young pecan trees. Only $200,000 for all--I'll even through in the old faithful dump truck if you ask nicely. The air is clean and people in this country very friendly. Why would anyone give this up, you say? Well, I'm a 62 year old woman, tired, and out of money. The new structure was to have been a living room to house a retreat center, and the plan was to build a bedroom next year, but labor has priced me out and I do not wish to make any more loans. I feel it is time to move on, knowing I did a good job. Truly, I prefer for the Potawatomi tribe to have their land back: they are gradually re-buying it, but the appraiser is dragging his feet getting my info to the Council. They do proceed on "Indian time", and if they cannot offer me the money I have in this project, then I must advertise elsewhere. Knowing there are no "natural" builders around here, I cannot see how they will be effective in finishing what I have started. So I am appealing to people like you who already know and believe in these principles. They really only work well if you have multiple persons helping with the building, like a family, or one who has a regular job and lots of time, as well. This place is well known in the area, and I have garnered a lot of respect in the community for building this way. All you need do is maintain this integrity, and you will get assistance now and then from the tribal road & bridge dept. if you need something large done. Being on a reservation has the advantage of not requiring ordinary state building codes. For more information, please contact me by phone because I'm only doing email at the public library about once a week.
