Coppr- thanks!! .... the building posts I saw at Emerald Earth are on stones. several of them as well as the cribbed frames I described. ussally the stone is supporting the end of a porch post or outflun beam away from the footing it is drilling the stone and placing the metal anchor- or trimming the post to fit a metal strap which is work. a large buried stone with a hole drilled for the anchor is worthwhile if one does not choose to use a cement pier.
