[Cob] composting toilet? - sorry if off topicMarlin lightearth at onebox.comTue Nov 4 13:22:36 CST 2003
They (sawdust toilet) make a great addition to a Cob building as they're simple, effective, don't require plumbing and recycle a vital nutrient chain. To me Cob buildings are much more then sand/clay/straw - it's a mindset, moving toward a community building ethic (community incl. people, next generations, plants, ecosystems)..... My experience with them says small carbon grains (sawdust, ground leaves) are the key to making them not smell which is also one of the keys to acceptance in the public. If you make a compost, nested, pile with your remains and sawdust it'll be one of the hottest compost piles you've ever seen and the finished product will resemble purchased compost! Write me (anyone) off line for more details on the 2 different systems I've tried that both work..... Go Joe Jenkins! That's it.................. I've gotta get the Humanure book...........never in my mind could I ever imagine that using a bucket to poo in would not smell and clear people out of the house. This group is amazing. I feel like a kid again with my eyes wide open and so excited about what I am going to learn next! Thanks to everyone for asking questions that I never thought of to ask and to those of you willing so graciously to answer them. There are lots of us silent types in the list who for now are just listening. It's very nice that you share your time and knowlege with us new to this concept of living. Cookies and hot chocolate at my place for everyone........
