Actually, I think "courting" is a very appropriate way to phrase it.  Living
with/near other people involves the same sort of getting-to-know-you phase
that a romantic relationship does.  Like marriage, you might choose to make
your relationships legal (shared expenses, shared construction financing,
etc.), which involves a lot of planning and a lot of trust.
