Cob: commercial clay-green colorTaylor Publishing-DirtCheapBuilder tms at northcoast.comThu Jun 12 11:02:52 CDT 2003
But yes, especially for finish layers, people ARE using clay in colors. I want to see the green! And I keep hearing about putting different colors in as designs. ++++++++++ Amanda..I got an incredible sage green..very soft, by accident, still not sure it happened. Some books describing old methods recommend letting clay"age and get stinky and ripe"...I took that to mean organics in it, etc made it better over time, I have a huge tote sitting outside all winter, with a lid on but still exposed to air & some rain, this was locally dug clay, not sure where I got it, and I maight have had some paper scrap in there too... when I cleaned up outside my work area last week I saw the most incredible soft green color, I SWEAR it used to be just a beige clay. I figured it was mold and amost tossed it, then decided to mix in some lime and lime water, to kill any pathogens before I dumped it , but when I blended it together..even more gorgeous! very creamy. So now I am adding fiber & making samples and painting it on wall board scrap to see if it DOES mold or change color etc. I sure wish I remember what happened with this batch...I keep telling others, and need to remind myself to keep pristine science notes on what/when/ etc of all the soaking tubs and experiments. sigh Ms. Charmaine Taylor/ Taylor Publishing http://www.dirtcheapbuilder.com http://www.papercrete.com PO Box 375, Cutten (Eureka) CA 95534 707-441-1632 tms at northcoast.com
