Cob: Another article--applicable to cob and codes.Amanda Peck ap615 at hotmail.comThu Jan 30 17:20:52 CST 2003
Heck, I'm trying not to double post here, and am ending up sending to just one person. Charmaine sent us a site from someone in the Georgia mountains, talking about disability planning. Good idea. On the guy's web-site there's another article about codes which is pretty informative. Both Georgia and North Carolina use the SAME building code, although each state has amendments to it. I'd bet that all the states do this, some may upgrade to a later version sooner than others, the amendments may make a lot of difference. But.... All the North Carolina counties have permitting and inspection systems in place. Not so in Georgia, where only some do. But.... "According to the state (Georgia), all residential construction must be built according to the state codes. In counties without local building inspection, the only way to enforce the codes is through the courts. This means that a builder who violates the state building code can be taken to court, even if there is no local building inspection department." Maybe the question is: Would you rather build according to code to start with, or risk having to tear down your building later after a fight with the neighbors ends up in court? Of course if cob-ness is the only problem, then ideas about cob may have changed by then. http://www.mountainhomeshow.com/houseplans/mypagearticle5.htm _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
