Cob:REBAR- was Question: cob foundation in clay-rich soilPatrick Newberry PNewberry at HFHI.orgTue Oct 16 07:05:03 CDT 2001
I have not used Rebar in conventional foundations, but my brother in-law did use some rebar in a cob dome. He used it for reinforcement. What he found was that cob did not stick to rebar very well. He did find that if he coated the rebar with cement, then the cob would stick to it quite well. I'm not sure how that would affect moister etc. Still, especially if you have some curves in you wall, rebar would seem to be totally unnecessary to me. but if you did, perhaps, the coating of it with cement would help. Just as good might be to make sure your conventional foundation does not have a smooth surface on which the cob sits. Pat http://www.gnat.net/~goshawk
