A list of the insulation quality of many different materials, including >fiberglass and shredded newspapers. The Greenstone site: http://www.greenstone.com/index.html Has some good info on factors affecting quoted and actual R--value, especially their cellulose compared to fiberglass. Keeping in mind that it's a commercial site promoting a particular product, some of the negatives of fiberglass (besides health hazards) are reasonably well presented and could apply to some "natural" materials (like too loosely packed straw, home-shredded paper, etc.), and some of the benefits of a loose fill insulation apply to less manufactured forms of cellulose (like sawdust, wood shavings and well-placed straw).
