Harry, HELLO!! <G> Uwe told me you were a excelent resource for this subject. Now I see why in this wonderful pratical note. John, If the soil has more than about 15 % clay content (-200mesh size), then using 6-8 % hydrated lime will make you a soft soil pozzolonic material ... after mixing with a tiller, roll and compact; keep daamp for 72 hours, and you have a nice hard follr, that can be painted with white wash, etc,.....waterproof, and very hard.. First try a small area not on your poroject, but of the same soil... see if it is suitable... Harry What is a "Pozzolonic Materal"? Is this a sort of the Roman Cement?? Can this addition of Lime make Adobe Bricks that could stand up to wall use and limited rain? I am assuming a decent footing and large roof overhangs (I like Wide Porches)... Could this replace the massive efforts of Cob building? All that mixing of fibres into claylike soils, and handling MIGHT be cheap in Dollars but I VALUE my time as money also.... Thanks for your thoughts and future assistance in this. Michael
