I sure admire all you who are interested in fighting the building code battle.
I have my hands full just building.
At this point, the 'right thing to do' would be for the building department to
officially ignore property owners who wish to build and live in small (under 1000
sf?) structures on their own land, especially if water conservation features are
incorporated.
However, at this time land is seen not as home but as a commodity, and the
realtors and lawyers run the building department in such a way as to expedite
litigation and speculation (at the request of us 'taxpayers,' of course). And we
all move around so much that we'd be leaving behind a world of problems for the
next tenant....
Maybe codes are inevitable.
