>Hands-On NATURAL BUILDING WORKSHOP at Moonshadow in Whitwell, TN
>July 10-12: Post and Beam Timber Framing

>We will build a small south-facing, earth bermed passive solar structure
>with an attached greenhouse, sod roof and earthen floor. The structure
>will be built with cob, straw bales, industrial hemp and local materials:
>mountain rock foundation, round poles, and hand-hewn logs.

>Cob Construction (clay, straw and sand mixture)

>INSTRUCTORS:
>JOHNNY KIMMONS: Master builder with 26 years of experience. He has built
>several natural buildings at Moonshadow, using materials found on site. He
>will be setting the foundation for this structure and will teach the Post
>and Beam Timber Framing Workshop.
>BOB KORNEGAY: Bob developed the experimental homestead for Mother Earth
>News in the 1980's before joining the Gesundheit Institute in West
>Virginia and designing their ecovillage. He spent the last two years on
>the staff of the Ecovillage Training Center at The Farm where he taught
>biodynamic farming, innovative architecture (including the building of 2
>cob structures), and integrated systems. Bob will teach the Cob Workshop.

>HOWARD SWITZER: Architect in TN and a faculty member of The Farm's
>Ecovillage Training Center. Specializing in ecological building design,
>Howard has been helping owner builders in the region build healthy
>sun-tempered spaces with straw, mud, rock and a teeny tiny bit of wood.
>His presentation is a fun mixture of slides and song, providing a
>historical perspective of the ravages of modern development and focusing
>on a revival of sustainable pre-industrial building techniques.
>JOHN JOHNSON AND ASHLEY GILBERT: john and Ashley are environmental
>activists with an excellent multi-media presentation, "Chip Mills:
>Explaining the need for alternative building materials." John and Ashley
>are both on the board of directors of the Southeast Center for Ecological
>Awareness in Chattanooga, TN.

>STRUCTURE DESIGNERS: PATRICK KIMMONS AND ANTHONY BLONDIN

>LOCATION:
>Moonshadow is a community located in Whiwell, TN which strives to ensure a
>sustainable future and equality for all life. It is located on 300 acres
>of biologically diverse habitat with nature trails through mixed deciduous
>forest, and organic edible landscape, and hand-crafted buildings which
>utilize alternative energy sources.
